Peter Dudzik, Owner of Access Wood Flooring

Peter Dudzik is the owner and President of Access Wood Flooring (Access Flooring Co Inc.), the family-owned hardwood flooring company he founded in 1996. He is also the author of the articles on our blog.

From floor sander to company owner

Peter has over 30 years of hands-on experience with wood floors. Before he started Access Wood Flooring, he worked as a floor installer, a floor sander and a supervisor. In 1996 he opened his own company to do the work the way he thought it should be done: carefully, in people’s homes, with the same small crew from start to finish.

Access Wood Flooring is still a family business. Peter leads the work, his wife answers calls and handles bookkeeping, and two employees complete the team. Over the years the company has completed several thousand jobs for homeowners on Chicago’s North Shore and in the northwest suburbs.

What Peter works on

How he runs a job

Every project starts with a free in-home estimate: the floors are measured with a laser and the homeowner gets a detailed written estimate with the work, materials, finish products and an approximate schedule. When a floor gets a new color, stain samples about 12 by 12 inches are applied on the homeowner’s own wood. Sanding is done with dust-containment equipment (Oneida Vortex DCS and Bona Portable DCS 2.0), kitchen cabinets and doorways are protected with plastic, and floors are finished with commercial-grade products such as Bona Traffic HD and Loba Supra A.T. The job ends with a walkthrough covering drying times, furniture and floor care.
